Research & Education Office

To advance the practice of medicine, improve patient care, and promote scholarly activities through medical research

Established in 2006, the Doctors Hospital Research & Education Office was developed to offer administrative, analytical and clinical support, as well as assistance in the dissemination of research findings to multi-disciplinary staff.  The REO provides a full range of ala carte services to all members of the Doctors Hospital community, including osteopathic medical students, interns and residents, attending physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other personnel interested in conducting research.  The department includes Research and Education and the Institutional Review Board.

The REO assists with protocol development, technical consultation regarding study design and sample size, budget and contract negotiations, regulation submission, research tracking and compliance and editorial support for publications.  The department also offers research training and education sessions to several different hospitals within the OhioHealth system.

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is responsible for the protection of human subjects involved in research activities conducted by Doctors Hospital investigators.  The IRB is registered with the federal government Office for Human Research Protection (OHRP) and meets during the odd months to review research studies and oversee research activities to ensure the protection of the rights and welfare of all subjects.

The investigators at Doctors Hospital come from a variety of backgrounds including investigators associated with Grant Medical Center, Riverside Methodist Hospital, The Ohio State University Medical Center, and Ohio University College of Medicine.  Research occurs in all medical disciplines such as Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, and Oncology.  In additon, Doctors Hospital has the unique ability to conduct specialized studies.  Our unique environment includes osteopathic medicine which has allowed research in treatment for pneumonia.
